New Erections
Anti-
While New Erections is possibly The Locust's most accessible album to date especially if you spend a lot of time listening to Dillinger Escape Plan, Hella and Boredoms it's still as unpredictable as a pyromaniac in a fireworks factory. The hail of shrapnel-like riffs and wretched vocals, broken up by the occasional synth drone, are surprisingly palatable under Safety Second producer Alex Newport's noise-managing guidance. The Locust even manage to lock themselves into some sustained grooves, with Full Frontal Obscurity using a normal song structure and a catchy refrain (This hegemony is hard at work). Lyrically, New Erections mucks around in the nonsensically-apocalyptic pseudo-politicizing of big words slapped up against bodily functions too dumb to be insightful and too bland to shock. For maximum enjoyment, just try not to think too much and let the noise orgy run its course.
