The Furniture Moves Underneath
Drip Audio

Vancouver's improv/rock/electronic Drip Audio label continues its ambitious release schedule with the second release from The Inhabitants. The band's new disc exudes confidence from the get-go with a squall of drums, guitar, bass and finely shredded trumpet. This soon gives way to the occasionally one-dimensional but solid post-rock rhythmic sensibility that dominates the proceedings. The guitar/trumpet frontline manipulate both the subtle and harsh timbres of their instruments, but can also crawl inside melodic Bacharach-like themes such as “A Part of You” just as easily. Special mention goes to trumpeter J.P. Carter, who is all too eager to stay away from a natural sound, yet shows great sensitivity with his choices in electronics. If you're a Nels Cline fan there's much to love here.
