Mason Hornet do their best to spread holiday cheer at their Christmas Party at the Cameron Friday (Dec. 3). Getting the festivities underway is indie rock supergroup the Anxious Mofo Blues Band, performing your favourite Christmas songs in the style of the Velvet Underground. Oxford County Circus (featuring Greg Smith of the Co-Operators) will also be on hand.


Canada's most famous female fiddler, Natalie MacMaster, plays Convocation Hall Saturday (Dec. 4). She'll be playing songs from her latest recording, In My Hands, as well as audience favourites from her repertoire. This is her first Toronto show following a recent month-long U.S. tour and a one-day trip to Ireland to tape a performance for an upcoming BBC television show.


Montreal's most excellent export the Local Rabbits open for the Rheostatics at the Phoenix Wednesday. The Rabbits, who are due for a follow-up to 1998's Basic Concept CD, spent much of last year backing up country chanteuse Neko Case, so this is a great opportunity to hear them play their own material.
